There are no anti-trust issues when the partner airline is foreign, and so Japan Air Lines may well succeed in buying a stake in American Airlines’ Sabre airline reservation system where Delta Airlines was thwarted by strongly negative noises from Washington: according to Newsbytes, Japan Air Lines has signed an agreement to develop the two companies’ computer reservation systems, with mutual access to the Axess system operated by Japan Airlines and the Sabre system operated by American Airlines, with joint development of compatible software and hardware – and Japan Air was talking to American before Delta arrived on the scene with a plan to add its Datas II system to give Sabre system a further edge.
