Users of Nixdorf 8870 applications will soon be able to run their programs on machines other than those of Nixdorf Computer AG, reports Computerwoche: IMN GmbH, which like Nixdorf is based in Paderborn, and headed by a certain Manfred Nixdorf, has developed an interpreter that enables Business Basic programs written for the 8870 to run on Unix, MSDOS and OS/2 systems; called X/Netbridge, the interpreter is said to be particularly suited to local area network use, including NetWare, which dominates the West German market with a 70% share; Nixdorf’s fall was down to decline of the 8870 business.
