Longmont, Colorado OEM Winchester make MiniScribe Corp, which announced last week that it was going to have to make lay-offs at its Colorado, Singapore and Hong Kong plants (CI No 1,078), has now put numbers on the cuts – and it turns out that it has 2,000 people surplus to its requirements on its payroll. It says that 240 will lose their jobs in the US, with the rest at the Far East plants, but it hopes to make some of the cuts by attrition. The unfortunates will be notified over the next four to five weeks. The company said last week that it was overstocked with 380Mb drives.
