Los Gatos, California-based XA Systems Corp has released Datatec-DS, a software re-engineering tool designed to support database conversion and migration to IBM’s DB2, system redesign, bottom-up modelling, and dictionary and repository population. It is the latest addition to the company’s re-engineering software product line, which includes Pathvu, a Cobol analysis tool, Retrofit, a code restructuring tool, and React, an Assembler to Cobol conversion tool. Datatec-DS is used to convert undocumented, inconsistent Cobol data definitions into standardised data elements and record definitions. With consulting support, the product can be used for field and record expansion projects. It is claimed to support user efforts to populate IBM’s AD/Cycle Repository. Datatec-DS operates in MVS, MVS/XA or MVS/ESA environments, and OS/VS Cobol or Cobol II source is the input to Datatec-DS. The product supports Command-level CICS, IMS DB/DC and DB2 programs. It costs $100,000 and is available immediately.
