China Mobile has posted a 1.4 % increase in its profit to RMB55.3m for the first half of 2009. For the six months ended June 30, 2009, the company posted revenue of RMB212.9m, up 8.9%, compared to the same period last year.
In the first half of 2009, the group continued its growth in customer base, value-added business and voice usage volume. The company added 35.9 million customers bringing the total customer number to 493 million at the end of June. Value-added business accounted for 28.1% of the total revenue.
For the six months ended 30 June 2009, the group’s total voice usage volume reached 1,387.047 billion minutes and the average minutes of usage per user per month (MOU) was 490 minutes. Average revenue per user per month (ARPU) was RMB75.
Facing the new business environment, the company said that it will continue to uphold the Blue Ocean Strategy and insist on rational competition.
The company blamed macroeconomic slowdown, rising mobile communications penetration rate and changes in the competitive environment of the telecommunications industry in china to have posed challenges for the development of the business.
