Phoenix Technologies Ltd, Norwood, Massachusetts has won a sig nificant coup with a joint development and licensing agreement with DEC under which it will supply the Maynard minimaker with customised versions of a variety of its MS-DOS software compati bility products for use in the VAX family of networked computers. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed. No-one is saying, but the terminology – We’re very excited to have this opportuni ty with Digital to showcase our expertise in migrating the PC environment into the VAX environment, said Phoenix chairman Neil Colvin – implies that DEC plans to support MS-DOS programs as tasks under VMS on the VAX as well as integrating MS-DOS micros into VAX networks. DEC says the pact will enable it to offer a consistent and unified approach to PC compatibility for the VAX environment.
