Munich-based Bayerische Motoren Werke AG, known on the road as BMW, has recently installed a supercomputer in the BMW research and development centre in Munich courtesy of Cray Research Inc: the eight processor Cray Y-MP system, with a 64M-word memory, replaces a Cray X-MP system and was installed in April; it will be used in the search for more fuel efficient products and breakthroughs in the area of structural and fluid dynamics.
