Matsushita Electric Industrial Co is to increase its production capacity for Japanese language word processors by 50% with a new plant in the Osaka area, and will launch three new models of the proprietary U1 word processor by the end of October, accompanied by an 80386SX personal computer, the Panacom Pronote, which is compatible with its current lines of desktop and laptop Panacom M series machines – the CV-M550NFD, a floppy-based model costs $2,045 and the CV-M550NHD with 20Mb hard disk is $3,220; and Matsushita looks for monthly sales of 30,000 of the hard, 20,000 of the floppy model.
