The US Department of Defense finds it likes its Zenith Data Systems lap-top computers so much that it has ordered 225,000 of the things over the first two years of the contract embarrassingly far ahead of the 90,000 over the period envisaged in the contract – and now a halt has had to be called until the General Services Administration gives a ruling: the Air Force reckons it was allowed to exceed the 90,000 number but the GSA does not agree, and a ruling has to be handed down before orders can resume; meantime, reports Government Computer News, Zenith has benefitted to the tune of $660m from the pact.
