Italtel SpA has now reached agreement on its plan announced last December with Krasnaya Zarya of Leningrad to establish a plant to build digital telephone exchanges based on the Italian’s Linea UT (CI No 1,326): the joint venture, called Telezaria, will be 60% owned by the Soviet company, 40% by Italtel, and will use Krasnaya Zarya facilities in Lenigrad and in Georgia, eventually employing 2,400 making 1.5m lines of UT annually; state-controlled Italtel is 20% owned by AT&T Co; Italtel expects to invest $34.7m in the project in the first decade, $51m in the second; value of the output is forecast to total $3,340m over that 20-year period.
