Judge William Ingrams dealt a sharp blow to Intel Corp’s hopes of keeping the 80386 microprocessor market to itself late Friday when he denied Intel’s plea for a motion to bar Advanced Micro Devices Inc from calling its reverse-engineered microprocessor the Am80386. Advanced Micro still has to persuade a court in a hearing set for next year that it has the right to use the Intel microcode in its 80386 under the 1976 second source agreement between the two companies and must also persuade potential customers that they are not at risk from using its versions of the 80386 and the 80386SX.
