Chips and Technologies Inc has finally officially launched its PC Video integrated circuit for the multimedia market. In fact the product was pre-annuonced a couple of weeks ago by New Media Graphics Corp when it launched its multimedia board for MS-DOS micros (CI No 1,544). The product enables customers, buying it under an OEM agreement, to cut costs by 70% – for example, New Media is offering its board for $700 whereas without PC Video the boards would probably have retailed for as much as $2,000. PC Video is compatible with both AT and MCA personal computers as well as with video input standards such as NTSC, PAL, SECAM, SVHS, and RGB used in cable TV, videodisc, still-frame video, and VCRs. The device integrates all of the control logic required for video digitizing, window positioning, and memory timing. The product – designated the 82C9001 – is scheduled for general sampling in December with production quantities available in April 1991. It comes in a 160-pin plastic flat pack and costs $40 in volume quantities.
