Luton-based telecommunications equipment supplier Systems Reliability Plc has acquired Enterprise Computer Services Ltd of Newbury, Berkshire for UKP22m. Enterprise has a current turnover of UKP13m and is a large value added engineering services company operating in the UK, Europe, and the US selling in the secondary user IBM mainframe market. Founded in 1979 Enterprise installs, removes, reconfigures and supports large IBM systems including 308Xs and 3090s. The demand for reconfigured IBM mainframes has increased rapidly since 1986 following the accelerated introduction of model and feature change kits. Enterprise’s leasing customers include most of the majors, among them Atlantic Computers, Megaleasing, and the US market leader Comdisco. As part of the package Systems Reliability has also got Golden Buffalo of Surbiton, Surrey which Enterprise acquired last year to write complex IBM MVS and VTAM source code. Systems Reliability Holdings now has three separate divisions, the new secondary user division Enterprise; Corporate Computers Plc, a personal computer dealership that was recently formed from the merger of Systems’ two previous acquisitions of last year, Fletcher Dennys Systems and Essex & City Computers; and Systems Reliability Plc which is the core business supplying telephone and network management systems and offering third party maintenance. Systems Reliability Holdings Plc was formed last year by the board of Systems Reliability Plc with backing from Hillsdown Investment Trust to establish a big, diversified UK electronics and computer group.
