Few details have surfaced yet, but Edge Computer Inc, Scottsdale, Arizona is now understood to have won a joint technology and marketing agreement from Motorola Inc, as forecast in CI No 957. The deal was signed by Jim Norling, vice president in charge of semiconductors at Motorola. The deal is expected to enable the Schaumberg, Illinois company to offer Motorola 68020 and 68030 microprocessor users an upgrade path to the 68020-compatible Edge processor series. Motorola confirmed that it had signed with Edge, but neither comp any were ready to elaborate on the terms as we went to press. Edge’s biggest coup before this one was to win Olivetti over to its high-per formance processors for use in top end models of the new LSX3000 fami ly and Philips Data Systems is also understood to have opted for a new, unannounced top-end Edge processor.
