Adobe has released the first cut of a free Flash-based online Powerpoint alternative it is calling Presentations.

Presentations looks and behaves like a desktop presentation application but operates inside a web browser, company said.

The web-based tool can be used to create presentations using pre-styled layouts. Users can revise and collaborate on a presentation online and then access and present it from wherever they are. It can also be moved offline by exporting to Adobe PDF.

Unlike other presentation systems, Presentations lets people work in groups on the same presentation at the same time. The system shows who has access to any presentation, when they are online viewing it, and which slide they are editing. A personal workspace is updated with the status of a presentation, and records who and what has changed since it was last viewed

Acrobat.com Presentations supports Firefox, Safari, and Internet Explorer.

The company has confirmed there are no current plans to charge for Acrobat.com Presentations.
