Nixdorf Computer Ltd has announced UK availability of NMMS – the Nixdorf Manufacturing Management System – which integrates manufacturing and business applications software into a single modular package. It runs solely under Niros, Nixdorf’s proprietary operating system, on the Quattro range of multiprocessing business computers which succeeded the venerable 8870 line. The core MRP II module is based on a closed loop which facilitates interdependence of production planning and financial control. The several modules include business planning; forecast management; production and resource management; materials and capacity requirement planning; and stock control. Computer-aided design functions can be added using PC-Draft software, which will generate bills of materials directly from drawings, and update the core production control system. NMMS records customer details and provides information for sales analysis, administration and invoicing. Actual and estimated costing is provided by Comet Top’s costing and management accounting modules, and these can be integrated with sales and production. Nixdorf is pitching the system at the manufacturing sector, and engineering companies Fairy Arlom and Hubbard Reder are now NMMS users. The company was unable to give any details of cost, since it will depend on individual user requirements.
