Mitsubishi Electric Corp plans to increase capital spending to $1,108m in 1991, including $538.2m for investment in semiconductors which is up from last year’s figure of $491.4m. The company reported net profits of $438.3m and current profit of $1,055 for 1990. Sales of information and communication systems plus electronic devices rose by 2% to $3,391m in the first half, and are forecast to reach $7,488m by year-end. However, semiconductor sales fell by 10% to $1,318m and Mitsubishi expects the year-end figure to be in the region of $2,691m. Of total sales, exports fell 9% to $1,797m in the first half and are expected to end the year at $3,666m, which is down 4.1% on the previous year.
