Demonstrating how a good company looks after its employees, Hewlett-Packard Co is offering its 57,000-strong US workforce three additional benefits: a dependent-care resource and referral service enables employees to consult by telephone with experienced counsellors to receive referrals for child care and for support services for older relatives; an adoption-assistance benefit, giving an employee $2,500 when he or she adopts a child; and a parental-leave policy allowing mother or father to stay home for four months with a new baby or an adopted child and with the guarantee of a job upon returning to work; current leave is two months.
