The recently introduced Series 6000 local area network from Case Communications Ltd, based on the Open Systems protocol stack, includes a TCP/IP gateway allowing Unix-based hosts and other systems with TCP/IP to be supported on the local network – but division manager Paul Gigg, quoting figures from market researchers International Data Corp, says that demand for TCP/IP nets will dry up within two years: TCP/IP networks such as those from Excelan Inc can be connected to the Series 6000, giving customers a migration path to Open Systems Interconnection, according to Gigg – and that is the same pitch as IBM is using for TCP/IP (CI No 1,020).
