A fairly apocalyptic story in the US edition of the Wall Street Journal on Friday made much of the suggestion that IBM has hit trouble finding means of getting any more out of the 3090 processor, and is not ready to announce Summit, which may not ship until late next year: the intelligence is coming from Gartner Group, but the number of users running out of steam on the 600J is very small, and few users have moved up to the J yet, so it is not clear that IBM needs to offer more raw power, and other inducements are more likely to be needed to keep the market moving.
