Electronic Data Systems Inc has capitalised on its parentage to leap into the European market for Electronic Data Interchange services with implementation of a network that will enable the various General Motors Corp subsidiaries around the continent to exchange orders, invoices, goods received notes and updated price lists and other auto information with the company’s dealers in seven European countries. But the real beneficiary of the move its Istel Ltd, Redditch, Worcestershire, whose existing Edict network in the UK will be used. On the continent, the Edict software will be used to control the flow of data around the network, harmonising with the Atlas X400 service on the French X25 Transpac network, and the EDI*Express service on the General Electric Information Services network in West Germany, Italy, Spain and Benelux.
