IBM yesterday also plunged deeper into the medical computing business, announcing a US joint venture with Baxter Healthcare Corp to establish an equally-owned health-care information management company. The new company, which will be formed by subsidiaries of IBM and Baxter, will specialise on innovative software and services for current and future needs of the health sector. To be based somewhere on Long Island, New York, the partnership’s resources will comprise software products, services and employees of the Systems and Annson Systems divisions of Baxter Healthcare, and some IBM health-care software products and development work with a number of IBM staff. IBM will expand its US health-related marketing team to support the partnership in marketing its software and services; in the rest of the world, IBM will sell the partnership’s products.
