General Electric Co’s Rockville, Maryland-based GE Information Services has installed a network node in East Berlin and plans nodes for Dresden, Leipzig and Chemnitz by the end of the year to provide the former communists with direct local phone call access to the company’s worldwide data network and its applications: GE Information Services says that since unification efforts began, demand from West German government and corporate entities for information on East German companies, branch offices and markets has grown significantly, and Handelsblatt, Sueddeutsche Zeitung, and Axel Springer Verlag are already using the new node in East Berlin.
