Storage Technology Corp, Louisville, Colorado wants to get into the IBM 3090 and 308X add-on memory business, and has signed a memorandum of understanding to take exclusive worldwide marketing rights to the add-on memory boards made by EMC Corp, Hopkinton, Massachusetts. StorageTek will market central and expanded memory for 3090s as well as main memory for 308X machines and compatibles. The company already markets EMC’s 4080, a solid-state disk alternative.EMC looks for the OEM agreement to add $100m to its turnover for the three-year period from February 1, most of it in the first two years. The sums ain’t hay for a company that did $92m for the first nine months of 1989. EMC says that it is holding on to marketing rights to its memory for IBM 4300-class and smaller systems.
