Hitachi Data Systems, owned jointly by Hitachi Ltd and General Motors Corp’s Electronic Data Systems, has set up a Spanish subsidiary as part of its expansion programme for Europe. Hitachi Espana will take over all operations of NAS Espana and the new owners predict a turnover of $10.2m for the fiscal year closing in March 1990, double the company’s present sales. In addition, Hitachi is planning industrial investment in Europe and will decide at the end of 1990 where its European computer manufacturing plant will be, Spain is a probable candidate although Eastern bloc countries are now also being considered.
