Psion Plc’s loss-making Dacom Systems Ltd has undergone further changes after Psion’s gloomy interim results showed pre-tax profits down to UKP314,000 from UKP1.6m last year (CI No 1,504). The company is now called Psion Dacom Plc and a new management team has been installed. Andrew Clegg, formerly Psion’s engineering director, has been appointed as managing director, and he is supported by two other directors from the Psion stable. Dacom’s product range is to be refocused on desktop, portable and dial-up markets, and Psion says that the new management will push Dacom into niche areas where data communications are becoming more significant. The parent, obviously determined to control its wayward subsidiary, says that it is looking to achieve a more balanced and coherent range than was previously the case, and it acknowledges that Dacom’s dealers and distributors need more marketing support.
