Many people believed Gupta Corp would fade away altogether once its founder disappeared, its core business proved evanescent and it changed its name, but the company – now Centura Software Corp – is seeking to make a big comeback in the brave new World Wide Web world, aiming to offer an open Web integration framework with the acquisition of InfoSpinner Inc of Richardson, Texas. Centura will pay 4.5 million shares for InfoSpinner, putting an indicated valuation on the acquisition of $16.3m. The aim of the framework is to enable users to migrate old Cob- ol, CICS, 3270 and suchlike applications to the Web, integrating them with the likes of Java, JavaScript, FrontPage and Shockwave.
