Another hectic quarter drew to a close at Netscape Communications Corp with the Mountain View company reporting a healthy set of numbers, marking the increasing role services play in its business. Of first quarter net revenues that rose 114% year-on- year to $120.2m, a quarter, or some $30.5m of sales came from services rather than products. Net profits were up 121% to $7.9m, or $0.09 per share, beating the First Call average Wall Street estimate by a cent. Highlights of the quarter include the Novonyx joint venture company with Novell Inc; the beta of SuiteSpot 3.0 and Netscape Communicator, the follow-up to Navigator and various support and integration programs. Cash at the end of March was $103.3m, up from $87.5m the previous quarter.
