Spacenet, a wholly owned subsidiary of Gilat Satellite Networks, has launched new Prysm Pro application and network management appliance that provides a range of networking and content-delivery functions, as well as support for enhanced security and backup connectivity for business continuity.

Spacenet said that the new Prysm Pro is an IP network appliance that can be customised to support multiple secure wireless networks and provide integrated support for a range of corporate applications including support for data acceleration, retail applications/POS hardware interfaces, and multimedia content delivery such as digital media.

In addition, it is integrated with the company’s Managed Network Services to provide access to web portal to enable centralised network management.

The company said that the new Prysm Pro appliance is designed for deployment in Wide Area Network (WAN) and Local Area Network (LAN) environments. On the WAN side it interfaces to a VSAT, DSL, cable, or 3G wireless modem, or a combination of multiple WAN links to support hybrid networks.

On the LAN side it attaches via Ethernet and USB to any IP-based devices and through serial ports to legacy serial devices, the company added.

According to Spacenet, the new Prysm Pro appliance technical features include: Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol based routing between primary and secondary links; automatic hybrid switching between satellite, wireline and wireless technologies; and integrated Wi-Fi hotspot services including authentication and activity logging.

Other features includes: integrated Analog Telephone Adapter (ATA) for VoIP functionality, PCI-DSS compliance, HTTP filtering and POS hardware interface expansion.
