Looks like Lernout & Hauspie Speech Products NV’s co-chairman Jo Lernout got a little too into the idea of free speech last week when she apparently told European journalists the company expected to meet financial expectations for 1997 and 1998. The remark appeared in several wire reports, and now L&H is backing off from the statement, claiming that the company doesn’t comment on such matters. In a statement issued Tuesday, L&H explained that the comments were not authorized, leading us to wonder who it is that needs to okay what the co-founder, co-chairman and managing director wants to discuss with journalists?
