Illinois Superconductor Corp, Mount Prospect Illinois maker of high-temperature superconducting equipment for the wireless telecom industry, has retained investment bankers Salomon Brothers Inc to act as a strategic advisor for the company. The company insists it hasn’t brought Salomon on board for anything specific such as an acquisition. In June, ISC secured a $15m financing facility with fund advisory firm Brown Simpson LL (CI No 3,179) after having scrapped plans for an initial public offering a month earlier, due to what it perceived to be a weak market for high-technology stocks. Under that deal, Brown Simpson also took on a strategic advisory role for ISC.
