Sony Corp’s Computer Entertainment America division is bracing itself for what it anticipates will be the most successful video game in the history of its Playstation, the games console that hit the streets in October 1995 (CI No 2,761). Sony says hundreds of thousand of gamers have already placed pre-sales orders for Final Fantasy VII, the next instalment of the role playing game from Square Soft Inc. Players in the US have been able to pre- purchase copies of the game since the beginning of the month as part of a pre-sell program. The program was initiated in a bid to avoid waiting lists of around six to nine months, and insure copies of the game are delivered when it hits the streets on September 7.
