As Microsoft Corp was confirming its $45m investment in Belgian speech recognition company Lernout and Hauspie NV (see separate story), the Information Services Group of Unisys Corp announced that technology from Dallas, Texas Voice Control Systems Inc has been integrated into the Unisys Network Applications Platform. Users of the Unisys product will be able to move through voice messaging functions, no longer have to operate commands such as picking up their voice mail and so on via the telephone key pad, but instead speak a set of commands. Unisys says the integration of the VCS technology will enable it to move forward towards the next generation of speech technology within the voice messaging market.
