Despite the fact that the company no longer makes the chips, Honeywell Inc is at last cleaning up on its patents on auto-focus technology, and Olympus Optical Co Ltd and Asahi Optical Co Ltd say they have each reached settlements with Honeywell: Olympus says it will pay $34.7m to Honeywell for use of the technology but Asahi Optical declined to disclose the amount of its payment; in August, Honeywell said it would be paid a total of $124.1m in settlements reached with Eastman Kodak Co, Konica Corp, Kyocera Corp, Canon Inc, Matsushita Electrical Industrial Co Ltd, Nikon Corp and Premier Inc; it received $127.5m from Minolta Camera Co Ltd for use of the technology in March.
