Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire software and services company FI Group Plc has shown a strong recovery from the hard times it experienced in 1990 (CI No 1,651) – pre-tax profits for the year to April 30 were up 196% at UKP1.3m on turnover up 30% at UKP21m. Says FI, the growth reflects the company’s understanding of its markets and its ability to adapt to changing conditions. FI now claims 9% of the market for support and maintenance services in the financial, commercial and public sectors, with its Mainstay service. Highlights of the year include the acquisition of Leeds, West Yorkshire-based open systems specialists Kernel Training and Kernel Technology, which added revenues of UKP3.6m, and the appointment of Sir Peter Thompson, of the National Freight Corp buy-out, as its chairman.
