Ichi-Taro, the most popular Japanese language word processing package on the market, will finally be made available in a Unix version for the workstation world this summer: the program did for NEC Corp’s PC-9801 in Japan what Lotus Development Corp’s 1-2-3 did for the IBM Personal Computer in the US and Europe, and has sold a total of 780,000 copies since its release in 1985; Just Systems Inc, the developer of Ichi-Taro has joined Unix International Inc and plans to convert its Atok Kana-to-Kanji conversion tool, which lies at the heart of Ichi-Taro, to the Unix International Japanese processing specifications as soon as they are released later this year, making a commercial version available by the summer; Just Systems also is preparing to join the Open Software Foundation, with the intention of developing an OSF/1 version.
