IBM has produced a drag-and-drop interface for its Tivoli systems management engine that should let businesses manage their cloud infrastructures just as they do their data centre resources.
The new cloud management console has been built around Tivoli Provisioning Manager 7.1 and the new Tivoli Service Automation Manager, and automates both the deployment and management of computing clouds.
It has been demonstrated as a means of shifting work between one cloud resource and another, to free up or make use of a cloud resource wherever and whenever it is needed.
IBM referred to the development as offering an “overflow cloud” for corporate IT.
The company also said it is working with network equipment maker Juniper Networks to connect all of IBM’s 13 cloud centres around the world so they can function in unison.
IBM also said it is creating a division to focus on cloud computing and named Erich Clementi, VP of strategy to lead the new Enterprise Initiatives group.
