Cray Research Inc signed with Absoft Corp for joint development of software tools to enable scientists and engineers to write programs on personal computers and then run the programs compatibly on Cray supercomputers and other more powerful machines: Absoft will create and market versions of the Cray Fortran 90 Compiler for high performance desktop computers, starting with 80486 and Pentium machines, and the planned PowerPC-based Macintoshes.
