Datapro Information Services Group in Delran, New Jersey has been doing a survey of high speed data communications multiplexor users and finds that 53% of the T1 multiplexor end-users it surveyed indicate that their multiplexor does not support Frame Relay – but of those, 59% said they would be investigating the option. Datapro also found that 48% of those surveyed indicated that they plan to buy additional T1 multiplexors within the next 12 months and that of these, 35% of multiplexor end-users who plan to purchase additional T1 multiplexors say they are considering AT&T Paradyne. Newbridge Networks was mentioned by 30%, followed closely by Timeplex at 28%, with Network Equipment Technologies being considered by 25%. Of the sample, 75% were not planning to upgrade to a T3 multiplexor within next 12 months. As for ISDN, forget it: only 21% and 14% of the respondents plan to implement ISDN Primary Rate Interface and ISDN Basic Rate Interface, respectively, as a T1 interface. Network management capabilities were rated as one of the three most important selection criteria by 62% of the respondents. Datapro conducted the survey in August among T1 multiplexer end-users in the US and over 400 participated in the survey.
