We are a bit confused about this, because when we first heard of IBM Corp’s Blue Lightning version of the 80486, it was a clock-tripling chip, but yesterday, Ambra Computer Corp was talking of it as a clock-doubler (see above) – yet IBM Corp’s Technology Products unit yesterday simultaneously said that it unveiled sample quantities of its Blue Lightning line of microprocessor subsystems and that they feature a clock-tripling technique that yields the highest speed 486 available on the market – and then talks of parts at 75MHz/25MHz and 66MHz/33MHz (two 33s are 66, aren’t they?); the parts will be for $500 to $700 in 1,000-per-month numbers.
