A management buyout of the assets and business of Milton Keynes based Audio Installation & Maintenance Services Ltd, now known as AIMS Technology Ltd, took place on June 27 this year. The mana ging director of AIMS Technology, Bill Sparks, led the buyout with the financial backing of capital group 3i Plc in the form of equity and loan capital amounting to UKP40,000 share capital on a 10,000 share issue. Sparks owns 65% of the shares with 3i owning the rest. Sparks says that he plans to clarify the separate divisions within the company for the benefit of customers and forge ahead with plans to expand into Europe. AIMS Technology recently signed a three year contract worth UKP250,000 per year with a Dutch computer company for the assembly of data communications cables. At the moment, 70% of AIMS’ business is IBM-oriented in the channel cable and data services areas, although AIMS does not deal with IBM directly but rather through companies such as Storage Technology Corp, Amdahl Corp, Memorex Telex International NV, Comparex Informationssysteme GmbH, and Hitachi Data Systems. The data services division is involved in consultancy, project management and environment-oriented issues concerned with the commissioning and installation of computers. Data communications cables constitutes 20% of AIMS business. The final 10% of AIMS’ business comes from its first product, envi ronmental noise controllers, for installation under the Environmental Health Act in pubs and clubs. The company’s customers for its various products include British Airways Plc, Legal & General Plc, Marks & Spencer Plc, BP Oil International Ltd, ICL Plc, Unisys UK Ltd and the UK Home office.
