Seven years after it sampled its first ferroelectric memory chip – they exhibit performance comparable with a dynamic but retain their state when the power is switched off – Colorado Springs, Colorado-based Ramtron International Corp seems to be on its way. It reports that Sega Enterprises Inc has placed a multimillion unit order for Ramtron’s 4K-bit ferroelectric random access memory chips. It is the first multimillion part order it has received for the chips, and follows a 100,000 chip order by Sega three months ago. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed, but early pricing for the 4Ks was $5. Ramtron expects to deliver the chips before the end of the year.
