Floppy disk drive manufacturer Y E Data Ltd plans to release under its own name the A5-size palmtop computer that it makes for Ing C Olivetti & Co SpA under an OEM contract. The machine, launched last month as the Quaderno (CI No 1,925), is an MS-DOS-based palmtop computer weighing 2lbs, and was designed at the Pegasus Co 50-50 joint venture between the two companies and is manufactured at Y E Data’s Saitama plant. Y E Data’s recently released results were down 16% compared with last year because of a depressed floppy drive market, and the firm is seeking alternative sources of income.
