British Telecommunications Plc may be considering a bid for US Sprint Communications Co according to the Financial Times Fintech Telecom Markets newsletter, which quotes sources close to the US Federal Communications Commission saying that Telecom has been making discreet enquiries about how regulatory restrictions on foreign ownership of a long-distance carrier could be circumvented; if British Telecom really is interested, it seems unlikely that Cable & Wireless Plc would want to stand idly by – Sprint is inter alia its partner on the PTAT-1 Atlantic cable.
