El Segundo, California-based Aura Systems Inc has an agreement with Delta Meranti Sdn Bhd, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to manufacture loudspeakers using Aura’s magnetic actuator technology: a plant generating $50m in annual revenues – there’s a speaker lurking in every personal computer – should be constructed and in production by mid-1994; Aura owns 49% of the joint venture and will have operational control of the plant, although the $8.5m to fund the facility will come from Delta Meranti; the plant will produce 7m loudspeakers in its first full year, and it will have the capacity to make 12m per year.
