In the early days of its involvement with personal computers, Philips NV used to make the things for Europe in Austria, but while they looked very nice, the Austrian-built machines were hopelessly uncompetitive in terms of price, and after the company acquired Canadian word processor builder Micom, it gradually transferred all personal computer manufacture to Montreal and to Taiwan: now the company is planning to bring some of it back home, establishing a production and distribution centre in Tilburg in the Netherlands, where subassemblies from Montreal will be integrated into machines for Europe.
