BellSouth Corp plans to merge its South Central Bell Telephone and Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph operating companies with its BellSouth Services to create BellSouth Telecommunications: despite the merger, the local phone companies will retain their old names, but each issued its own bonds, which will have to be modified and pass to the amalgamated company.
