There is an ongoing battle in Spain between Wang and a distributor called SDI over which one has distribution rights to Banyan Systems Vines products. SDI is claiming to have signed a contract with Banyan’s European arm for exclusive distribution rights, but Wang Espana says it has signed an OEM agreement with the parent company in the US. Via this agreement, recently renewed, Wang provides pre and post sales support, and it is also allowed to distribute the networking product through its country subsidiaries. Wang Espana is claiming to have written some $5.2m in Vines business, $3.1m of which came from sales to the Ministry of Education. In an attempt to resolve the embarrassing dispute, Banyan’s US headquarters has decided to transfer a percentage of profits from Wang Espana’s sales into Banyan Europe’s coffers.
