Rockwell International Corp, El Segundo, California is to license Manhasset, New York-based Spectrum Information Technologies Inc’s wireless data transmission technology in a joint development plan; both will provide program interface standards to OEM customers, enabling them to add custom software features that work directly with Spectrum’s wireless technology; Spectrum will get an undisclosed up-front licence fee and royalties on the chip sets and activating devices: Rockwell will adopt Spectrum’s technology broadly within its line of portable modem chip sets; the cellular data transmission features of the chips will be activated by proprietary devices to be marketed by both the companies.
