In an effort to get its PenPoint operating system for stylus-controlled notebook computers into the market quickly, Go Corp, of Foster City, California has engaged Phoenix Technologies Ltd, Norwood, Massachusetts to develop and offer a complete system-level refererence design that marries PenPoint with the Intel Corp 80386 SL microprocessor chip set and a new dual-mode Phoenix PenBIOS that will incorporate compatibility with both PenPoint and Microsoft Corp’s PenWindows environment. The Phoenix reference design will be based on Go’s second-generation prototype pen computer, which is optimised for the PenPoint operating system. Phoenix has licensed the right to sell and enhance Go’s hardware design. PenBIOS incorporate PhoenixBIOS, PhoenixMiser power management software for the 80386SL, and Go’s Machine Interface Layer for PenPoint.
